Top Ten Tuesday: I Love Their Magic

Hello friends! It’s time for Top Ten Tuesday again and since it’s a freebie I’ll be using last prompt of Friday Favourites because I missed it and I really wanted to do it. I love magic! And many of my favourite characters are magic wielders so I’m so mad at myself for forgetting it even though I didn’t really have that much time this Friday anyway.

I haven’t been posting for a few days again so I guess my blogtober challenge is off the rails now but I’m kind of growing tired with filler posts and I want to work more on posts I can be proud of. But today, let me rec you some books with awesome magic users!

Let’s jump into that then!

October 29th: Halloween Freebie

Top Ten Tuesday is hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl and you can find weekly topics on her page.

πŸ”– Cielo and Teodora

I love that they’re basically magic shapeshiftersCielo shifts his/her body and Teodora shapes the world around her. Genderfluid/ non-binary shapeshifters is my newest obsession and honestly Teodora made me realise my genderqueerness. But more of their magic! Stregas coexist with magic and they each have specific way of working it. Cielo and Teo got the cool ones but there magic manifest itself in many many ways. Healing. Invisibility. All the basic stuff. I mean, Capetta had many cool concepst here but nothing beats magic shapeshifting. Come on. The bar is just too high.

πŸ”– Kate Daniels

Kate Daniels is well versed in many types of magic. She may be known for barging in with her sword and knocking out everything that breathes but she can also put up protection wards, she has some necromantic abilities, she can do basic chanting… I keep it vague not to spoiler but she knows her shit. Most importantyl, she knows what magic not to use, and that’s important in Post-Shift Atlanta. She also learns and masters more and more types as we watch her develop and grow. And I loved watching her grow.

πŸ”– Wei WuXian and Lan WangJi

Hmm… I think swords and magic is something I really crave because here we have that again. But also MUSIC MAGIC. Both WWX and LWJ use music magic — LWJ uses guqin and WWX dizi. I mean, how cool is that?? Anyway, they are cultivators and fight various undead creatures, spitits, etc. in ancient China. Also, if killing zombie isn’t engaging enough for you, WWX is the father of demonic cultivation which means everybody wants him dead… Oops.

πŸ”– Ronan Lynch and Adam Parish

If you haven’t read it yet — beware the spoilers here.

The boy with a psychic powers granted by a forest. The boy who dreams up things, including said forest. What’s not to like? As a person who’s a little bit in love with every forest she visitsforest magic is just my jam. That’s it.

πŸ”– Tiffany Aching

I fell in love with this girl. She speaks to me my childhood fantasies of being a witch. And she’s determined, fierce, intelligent… She’s sometimes scared and doesn’t know what to do but she doesn’t give up. I mean, she can be an annoying little shit too and she’s pretentious and she can act entitled. She’s got a proud personality and she knows what she deserves even at such a young age but she’s not malicious. She uses her entitlement to protect what is hers and I think that’s what I like about her the most.

πŸ”– Wisteria

Wisteria is an anxious mess. She’s emotional. She fails often. But she’s also determined and she loves what she does. She finds a way where others don’t see any. Flaying is her passion so she decides to work in the field of aerial magic. She is disabled though — she can’t read so learning at an university is not the best option for her. So she decides to out for an apretienceship even though it’s not something particularly common anymore.

What magic wielders do you love? Or maybe there are some you hate? That’s fun too!

    1. Right??? Shapeshifters can be one-uped only by witches and here technically they are both?? So it wins for me!! ❀️❀️

Yes! I need to carry on with those books — I only read 2 books from Tiffany Aching series but he’s the funniest AND the realest!

Thank you!!! ❀️❀️❀️❀️ I’m excited to hear your thoughts on them then!!!

    1. Thank you, Dini!! The Brilliant Death is really amazing! And the audiobook? *chef’s kiss*
Honestly, with TRC I’m more into the concept since I binged it while sick and with high fever so I barely remember it lol. I love the characters though!

  2. Great list! I loved the magic system in The Brilliant Death, too – I’m so excited for the sequel, and I loved how the magic coincided with the main characters’ gender fluidity. One of my favourite magic systems is in Silvia Moreno-Garcia’s Signal to Noise – what’s not to love about 1980s teenagers using vinyl records to cast spells?

    1. Yes!! And how it also highlighted their personalities! Teo was raised with privilage so she’s more used to changing the world to her fitting and Cielo had to adapt first. And how the magic was the extension of themselves and not a random lottery so the shapeshifting was so clearly THEM.

USING VINYL RECORDS TO CAST SPELLS, you say??? I’m checking it out immediately!
