December Wrap Up

Hello darlings!

So, December’s officially over and done with! Are you excited for a fresh start? Or is the WHOLE NEW DECADE getting to you just a tiny bit?

Honestly, I have no idea where I’m standing on personally but I always enjoy seeing how much I’ve done so here comes the last monthly wrap-up for 2019!

Goodreads challenge: 94/90

πŸ“Œ Books read in December: 10

1.  Bloodlust & Bonnets by Emily McGovern|| β˜…β˜…,5β˜†β˜† || GR

A Jane Austen heroine, Lord Byron, and a too-cool-for-you butch girl fighting vampires. Sadly it was rather a miss for me

2. Seven Days: Monday β†’ Thursday by Rihito Takarai, Venio Tachibana|| β˜…β˜…β˜…β˜…,5 || GR

3. Seven Days: Friday β†’ Sunday by Rihito Takarai, Venio Tachibana|| β˜…β˜…β˜…β˜…,5 || GR

A perfect fluffy manga. Big on mutual pinning & fake dating.

4. The Black Tides of Heaven by J.Y. Yang || β˜…β˜…β˜…β˜…β˜† || GR

Amazing worldbuilding & intriguing plot but the time skips made it hard for me to REALLY connect to it.

5. The Brilliant Death by Amy Rose Capetta|| β˜…β˜…β˜…β˜…β˜… || GR

One of my all-time faves. Genderfluid kids with magic on a revenge road.

6.  Wintersmith by Terry Pratchett|| β˜…β˜…β˜…β˜…,5 || GR

Finally went back to the Discworld series and not regretting it.

7.  I Shall Wear Midnight by Terry Pratchett|| β˜…β˜…β˜…β˜…β˜… || GR

I think this one was my fav out of the three Tiffany Aching novels I went through this month.

8.  The Shepherd’s Crown by Terry Pratchett || GR

Not rating this one because it’s obvliously his last and he didn’t manage to edit it fully. It’s messy at times but still worth it.

9.  Call Down The Hawk by Maggie Stiefvater|| β˜…β˜…β˜…β˜…β˜… || GR

At this point I’m nearly sure I’m overlooking some bad stuff with the TRC and this series because I love the characters so much it compensates for the boring parts but… my heart tells me to 5 star.

Also, I’m still not over the narrator’s choice to give Ronan The Sexiest Voice. That’s definitelly an Acting Choice lmao.

10.  Riven by Roan Parrish || β˜…β˜…β˜…β˜…β˜† || GR

So I finished the 2019 with this good porn book and AM I GLAD I DID THIS, HUH??? Anyway, it was hot, it was funny, and that’s all I need.

πŸ“Œ Personal

I’ll be brief here because not much happened in my life, to be honest?

I had to lower my GR challenge in the end so I’m just a tiny bit disappointed but other than that the month went smoothly.

Everything was kind of rushed but that’s December for you. First you wait and prepare for Christmas then it’s all over in a blink of an eye and BOOM we have January again.

What was exciting — I’ve sent one of my friends a gift! To Russia!

And now I’m anxious because she hasn’t received it yet and it’s probably because the post is overloaded in Christmas time but my brain keeps imagining they lost it… I’ll update on the story next month to let you know! She’ve sent me something as well and I hope to get it soon!

So, HAPPY NEW YEAR!!

  1. I’m glad you also enjoyed The Brilliant Death! I thought it was super unique and different in the best way and I really enjoyed the magic system.
    I really want to pick up Call Down the Hawk but I haven’t read The Raven King yet, ugh! I’m honestly more than a little scared because so many people say it’s not as good as the first three, but I need to bite the bullet and just get over it.

    1. I love it so much!! It hit me with gender questioning and the chemistry was so good! If you enjoyed the magic system, Witchmark by C.L. Polk has a similar thing with the individual magical talents. Totally different feel to it though. TBD felt… sharp? And heart-pacing intense. Wichmark is more dreamy and intense as well but, I don’t know how to describe it, that feeling when you know shit is about to go down but instead of stress, you feel this sudden calm?

      I read the whole TRC when I was down with high fever so this is very subjective but I liked TRK? I was the most lucid for that one but I still mostly remember Pynch scenes and crying every time Noah was mentioned or the chapter started with something like ‘depending on how you look this story was about…’ There might have been some weird writing choices but I read it for characters and didn’t care much lol. CDTH is really something else though! I was kinda snoozing when the ‘villain’ had the POV but the rest makes up for it

      1. Wow, that was the most amazing description of any book ever. I definitely have to check it out now haha!
        Okay that’s a wild time but I will accept the rec regardless. I feel less scared about TRK now so I will get my butt in gear and go for it. Glad to hear it about CDTH!! Fingers crossed I love it as much as everyone else. XD
