2020 Reading & Blogging Goals

Hello darlings!

I want to orgainse myself more in this new year and this includes setting some goals.

I’ve already put down my personal list in my journal so now’s the time for reading & blogging!

I’m keeping it concise so there will be 5 of each but I will also try really hard to keep true to them so feel free to hold me accountable!

And, of course, HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!

book eat GIF by TatianaSo far I signed up for #StartOnYourShelfathon, NetGalley and Edelweiss Reading Challenge 2020, and Here & Queerathon Challenge 2020!

There’s some overlap between those and lots of the books I would read anyway but my track record with challenges has been so-so and I need to keep reminding myself to feel motivated not overwhelmed.

I’ll try my best and I shall succeed!

In 2017 I hit 100 books on my reading challenge for the first time.

In 2018 I hit nearly 200.

In 2019 though… I had to lower my challenge to 90 with the final count of 94. It’s still quite a lot, I know and I’m not complaining.

stop motion animation GIFBut also I want to keep challenging myself. I will not obsess over it nor focus on the number only but I think 100 books is an optimal number I want to strive for to keep myself in the game, you know? I need some number to keep my eye out for.

I love reading stories! They’re amazing!

But I also miss learning things.

book read GIF by BufferIn a year when I was retaking one term (only formally) I had no classes and since I defended my BA thesis I haven’t gone back to uni yet. I want to enroll this year but there’s a lot of time to October so I’ll have to tend to my yearning for knowledge on my own.

Let’s say, to make it easier to account for, one non-fiction book per month?

90s 80s GIF by Doctor PopularIn 2018 I started listening to audiobooks and I listened to A LOT of them that year.

But then 2019 came and I barely did that anymore

This year I hope to change it. Right now I have a trial subscription to Storytell and we’ll see what after that but audiobooks are a part of my 2020 now and I’m not backing down from it.

batman stop GIFI realised that I spend too much time and energy on trying to finish things I don’t want to finish out of some sick sense of obligation and I keep sending myself into bookslumps.

No more.

In 2020 we move on from things we do not enjoy. I have spoken.

pencil typewriter GIF by Thoka MaerI think my Tips & Tricks were my biggest hit this year and, more importantly, I really enjoyed writing them

So there will be more. If you have anything you would want me to learn and explain feel free to comment below ⬇️⬇️⬇️. Seriously. I love feeling like a mentor.

My next one will be about how I use Trello to plan my blogging and should be out this month!

lesson GIFSo, because of the various posts summing up 2019 I wrote — I realised I don’t have ANY discussion posts!

It can’t be!! ANY??!!

Anyway, I have one in my drafts now and I hope to have it done by February. Keep an eye out!

It’s all fun and memes until you realise you treat half of your content as filler content.

I want to create more orginal pieces instead of just weekly memes and usual reviews because I want to show more of myself not just the pieces cut out to fit the prompt.

overwork GIF by Carlotta Notaro

It’s cool to be a part of something so many bloggers do with you and it sparks conversations and bloghopping to see other people’s take but I feel like I’m trying to fit in and thus I don’t take it seriously in a way that matters.

In 2020 I want to focus more on creating content that MATTERS TO ME. Even if that means less posts and more work.

instagram GIF by Fran SoloI don’t bloghop as often as I would like to and I feel like I’m awkward and never know what to comment or how to word things

I’m not the most social person but I want to put more effort into interaction this year.

It’s time to TALK

I was asked to do a colab recently so I think I will have one up in January but it’s something I never do but would love to so I hope 2020 will bring more opportunities!

happy work out GIF by lillenI love group work and brainstorming ideas with other people so why have I never done this?? Probably something to do with the fact I would have to ASK other people first but ok

As I said, January is booked but if you too are yearning for the colab experience — hit me up and we can work something out for February or March??

  • What do you think of my goals? You think I can manage that?
  • What are YOUR 2020 goals?

  1. I’m not a social person either and in 7 years of blogging I almost never interacted with anybody (I know, my case is really bad !). For instance this is the sole comment I posted these past ten days I believe… oups. But I try ! Good luck !
My primary goal this year is to finally read queer books omg ! I never did because I was focusing so much on reading all the books in my bookshelf that are longing for me to open them for years ! Now is time to read queer ! Your blog is a great ressource to find those great queer books 😀 Thank you !

    1. I made this blog to try and be more social but it’s hard to even REMEMBER to do it when you’ve been so used to removing yourself from the conversation for so long! And when I actively try I overthink it and I feel so awful that such a basic skill most people take for granted is so hard for me? Thank you for sharing and I’m honoured to receive your comment!

That’s awesome! And, yes! I mainly focus on queer books so you’ll find plenty here 🙂 Have you heard of Here & Queerathon @ Cotton Candy Book Witch? If you need some encouragement you can find it here!! Also, if you were ever looking for something specific, you know where to find me! ❤

      1. Thank you ! ✨
Yes, I just discovered this readathon, this month’s books don’t interest me but I am so excited for what’s to come 😀

(and yup I totally feel you for being so used to remove yourself from the conversation. We can do it !)

        1. Those are just propositions! You just sign up and all the queer books you read in 2020 count 🙂 I’m just planning on reading what I would read anyway but have fun with other people involved 😀

          (we can and we will!!)

  2. These are all such great goals! I’d love to amp up some of my goals as well, but I’ll be finishing up my Master’s this year, but my goal is to at least post weekly and stay a bit active on my blog!

    1. Oh, good luck with your Masters! And don’t be afraid to seek help in case it gets too much. Uni is super stressful and I crashed and burned with my BA last year (my case was most severe I guess but it’s not worth it waiting for the point of brealing!) Ok, that sounded super negative but take care, please!
Yeah, a weekly post seems reasonable! Good luck! ❤

  3. Congrats on a great reading year and good luck with 2020! I’m personally participating in #StartOnYourShelfathon and #Quietathon (which is about reading underread/underrated books), and a lot of my goals are similar to yours. I definitely need to work on reading more nonfiction as well; I always enjoy it so much, but I don’t pick it up often, so I need to remedy that this year!

    1. Thank you, Amy! The #Quietathon sounds great, although I’m reading a lot of niche books already! 😀
My first book this year was non-fiction so I hope I’m off to a good start! I really want to Know Things again!! Good luck to you as well! ❤

  4. actually, our 2020 goals are pretty similar! i for sure want to write more discussion posts, even though they take a lot of time and effort! i love discussing the topic i choose with everyone in the comments!
i want to hit 100 books this year too! though ive never hit 100 books, so this year will be my first attempt at it! And I wish i had to initiative to dnf books that i know i’m gonna like (i would certainly read faster), but i’m just so used to pushing through no matter what! omg, doing collabs w other bloggers sounds amazing! good luck with meeting all of these 🙂 i know you can do it ❤

    1. I have some discussion ideas and hopefully, my first one will be out this month! I’m excited to read yours! 😀 I love the interaction and it’s definitely worth the time and effort those posts take!
The first time I managed to hit 100 I was binging short stories and graphic novels in December 😀 I think the key is to read more than one thing at a time? But I rarely do that now.
Oh, yeah, I always feel like I need to skim through it at least and then I put it off forever :/ I hate that! I already failed once this year and pushed through that one audiobook but I guess I liked the anxiety rep at least? Still, seems wasteful…
Thank you & good luck to you as well! We can co it!! ❤ 💪

  5. Absolutely love all these goals, E! We actually have a few similar ones for 2020. I’m really hoping to diversify the content of my blog… I realise that I’ve been taking the easy out with posting weekly memes and tags but I’m keen to step out of my comfort zone and do some discussion posts too! I think collaborating with other bloggers sounds like it’ll be fun! I hope you manage to achieve all your goals 😍

    1. Thank you, Dini! Thant’s great to hear! I hope we can inspire each other ❤ I have some drafts already but they're still in my notebook so I need to do some work today! 😀 If you ever have an idea for a collab, feel free to hit me up! I hope you manage to archive all your goals as well! ❤ ❤

  6. I love your goals for 2020, E. ❤ I hope you’re able to achieve them all by the end of this year. I loved reading your Tips & Tricks in 2019 and I can’t wait to read more of them. ❤

I truly get it. I also realized I wasn’t writing stuff that mattered to me, and I’d love to write the posts I *want* to write this year. I hope you do that in 2020! 💕

Also, good luck with going back to University, and for all your goals as well! I hope you have a wonderful year! ❤❤

    1. Thank you, Nikita!! ❤ I love writing Tips & Tricks so I will carry on with that so long as I have tips to share! ❤

Yes, it's so easy to get lost in creating content for the content sake and I don't want to do that this year anymore. It just takes up the energy I could spend on something I actually care about. I may not post as frequent because of it but it's a sacrifice I'm willing to make lol

Thank you again!! I hope you have a wonderful year as well!! All the best! ❤
