As promised I am back to talk about the audiobooks again!
Today I will share some things I did/ want to try doing while listening to audiobooks which are meant to help with the processing part.
Do you find yourself a bit lost when putting on an audiobook? You don’t know what to do with your hands, do I just sit and stare at a wall? you keep asking, you try to focus on listening but you think to hard about it and it throws you off…
Yeah, I had the same problems. Until I found out I just need some more stimulation to help me stay focused!
DO SOME ART
My favourite thing to do while listening to audiobooks is painting! Or drawing! Maybe you saw some of my art and a big chunk of it was done while I was listening to some audiobook.
But painting is not the only type of art you can try. Quilling, making some DIY projects, making jewelery… Whatever floats your boat!
Maybe the audiobook will even give you some inspiration!
SET UP YOUR JOURNAL SPREAD
Do you journal? I keep my journal pretty simple and mostly use it to track my mental health and my responsibilities but sometimes I need to draw a callendar page or put some colour here and there to make it more readable.
You may do the pretty weekly pages though or make it look pretty!

TRY SOME CALLIGRAPHY PRACTICE
This is one of the things I haven’t tried yet but I’m planning to.
I have an awful chicken scratch handwriting and I think that I need to improve it maybe. Plus it seems like a fun relaxing thing to do and keeps your hand moving.

TRY KNITTING/SEWING
Well, I tried knitting and I suck at it.
But that doesn’t mean you will! I think I will stick with trying to improve my sewing. I need to go through my clothes and see what needs some mending and put on a nice audiobook while I’m at it.
GO FOR A WALK
It’s too cold here to just go and read outside — which sucks. But I put on an audiobook and walk from time to time and it’s just as good.
KEEP IN MIND: people may think you’re crazy if you start laughing or something. Avoid crowds or get a fluffy scarf.
EXERCISE
That’s probably a thing I will NEVER do because I am way too lazy but it’s a good idea?
I listened to a podcast on my uni PE classes and it was neat.
DO CHORES
What’s better to help you to get through washing dishes than a good book?
Be productive and have fun at the same time!
KEEP IN MIND: sometimes you work with water. And sometimes you may drop an earphone in it.
PLAY GAMES
I mostly play on my phone while listening to audiobooks, to be honest. I mentioned all those FUN and PRODUCTIVE things and yet…
I also used to play The Sims 4 but they’re not working lately.
Turn on some Mahjong or Solitaire and have fun!

Oh I love this! I haven’t tried audiobooks yet, but it really appeals to me. I love doing jigsaw puzzles and usually I ‘watch’ my series while puzzling, but audiobooks might be a better choice! 🙂

Oh! Why haven’t I thought of puzzles!! I don’t really have space right now but that’s such a great idea — my family used to do a lot of puzzling back in the day and we have some boxes stashed away!

I listen to audiobooks while driving and doing random tasks around the house. I recently painted my kitchen while listening to an audiobook, which made the task much more pleasant!

I always wonder at people listening to audiobooks while driving! I’m just in the process of getting my licence (really, just had my 2nd lecture) so this idea just gives me anxiety but hopefully soon I will join this circle!

I apparently cannot do anything while listening to an audiobook because I begin to zone out! Driving a car…is so far the only thing I’ve found that I can do and listen to an audiobook. But man…maybe I’ll try filling out something?

I’m the opposite — I need to do something with my hands or my minds starts to wander!
I think it has something to do with the level of stimuli you need to focus — like when you did homework the music was helpful but during the test, you need the quiet? I guess it’s just different for everyone! Though I hope you’ll find more things you can do while listening to audiobooks 🙂

I need to try more things, because I’ve honestly enjoyed the audiobooks I’ve listened to — it helps me “read” while I’m in the car. I wonder if you’re right, and it’s the amount of engagement needed…and I need to find something I can do, but not think too much about?

I mostly experimented with things that feel ‘automatic’ for me? And which do not require anything verbal on my side. Just experiment and you’ll find something! 🙂

I definitely need to keep my hands and eyes busy while listening to audiobooks, otherwise I lose focus way too easily! As you know, I’ve been struggling to find things to do while listening to audiobooks and this list was really helpful!
I think I’m going to do some sort of art project while listening! I really enjoy sketching, but it’s been a while since I’ve taken my time to draw, so it will be nice to spend time doing that again, and hopefully it works well with listening!
I also currently have no games downloaded on my phone because it’s too distracting while I have school. But now that I’m on vacation, it might be fun to just play some mindless games and listen to an audiobook!

Art projects sound fun! Many of my pieces were done while listening to audiobooks — and good luck with going back to drawing!
Yeah, games can be addicting to the point you ignore everything else and I constantly delete them to cut the time I’m wasting and download them later when I get bored. But they can’t be that bad if you listen to a book at the same time, right? 😀
