#5OnMyTBR — 5 Superhero Books

Hello darlings!

So, it’s Monday again! Tell me about your TBRs!!

#5OnMyTBR is a bookish meme hosted by E. @ Local Bee Hunter’s Nook (me!) and you can learn more about it here or in the post announcing it. It occurs every Monday when we post about 5 books on our TBR.

This week’s prompt is Superheros!

I think I overstated the ammount of superhero books on my TBR when creating this prompt but let’s see what I’ve got!

|| Not Your Backup by C.B. Lee ||

๐Ÿ’› ace/aro spec MC
๐Ÿ’› the no-powers girl of superhero friendgroup
๐Ÿ’› continuation of the series

This is the 3rd book of The Sidekcik Squad which I adored!

It’s sort of between YA and MG with love and superpowers and adventure. The worldbuilding is quite bonkers and not supposed to be super realistic but it’s funny and has interesting plot and relevant parallels to today’s issues. Oh, and super queer rep.

|| The Extraordinaries by TJ Klune ||

๐Ÿ’› m/m frirnds to lovers
๐Ÿ’› ADHD rep
๐Ÿ’› fanfiction?

I have the ARC of this and, of course, I still haven’t got to it… I really am not the most reliable person. HOWEVER. This will be very cute — Nick writes fanfiction about superheros and one day he gets to MEET a superhero (and his crush) so he makes a plan with his BFF (and maybe a boy he’s in love with) to get his attention again.

|| Chasing Stars by Alex K. Thorne ||

๐Ÿ’› f/f
๐Ÿ’› it was fanfiction?

I’ve heard this one was SuperCat fanfiction (Supergirl x Cat Grant) and while I didn’t ship them back when I was wathing Supergirl I’m curious about it.

Also, I think I have this one on my kindle and I was supposed to read it for the Sapphic Book Club so so long ago… Oops.. I am sorry TT-TT

|| Dreadnought by April Daniels ||

๐Ÿ’› trans girl!!
๐Ÿ’› sadly a lot of transphobia

Danny inheriets the powers of a dying superhero Dreadnought — but she also inheriets their problems. And her own problems do not go away. Atually they triple.

I’m excited to see a trans girl kicking asses!! But also be aware that Danny’s parents are super transphobic here.

|| The Rest of Us Just Live Here by Patrick Ness ||

๐Ÿ’› about the regular people of superhero world
๐Ÿ’› lots of rep
๐Ÿ’› MC with OCD

This looks like a satire of conventional superhero/paranormal novels and I’m curious.

It has only side queer rep so knowing me, will I really get to it? Who knows. But it sounds interesting.

Last thought!

Who’s your favourite superhero??

For me, I have a thing for the X-Men. I loved watching the cartoon as a kid — I know that people who actually read the comics talk shit about it but, hey man, I’ve grown up on them and had a crush on like most of those girls. And wolverine?

  • Do you participate in #5OnMyTBR?
  • Do you have any of those on your TBR?
  • Have you read them maybe? (Make me read them then!!)

  1. We have several of the same books on ours this week! I too have not yet got to my ARC of The Extraordinaries.

My favourite superhero has always been Rogue from X-Men, probably because she was half of my queer awakening as a teen. (The other half being everything about The Mummy films).

    1. That’s wonderful! ๐Ÿ˜€ I’ll check out your list in a second!! Yeah, sadly I’ve got all those ARCs but they’re all YA and I’m in the Adult mood… I need to step up my ARC game tho

Yes! Rogue!! My huge childhood crush!! I was so obsessed with her it’s a wonder I thought I’m straight for as long as I did!! (Oh, The Mummy leads is the most perfect threesome material I need to thirst rewatch it soon!!)

  2. My 5 doesnโ€™t contain any of these wonderful sounding books. My household tends to mostly be a marvel house but I really donโ€™t discriminate between Marvel and DC myself. Wonder Woman is my fave DC and Pepper Potts is my favorite Marvel character โค๏ธ

  3. Oh my god, Dreadnought sounds so good! Like a better version of Green Lantern. I have to admit adult me loves Venom, but I also loved X-Men as a kid… and Teen Titans. Big fan of Storm and Wolverine.

    1. Haha, I don’t know Green Lantern beside that they had some cool rings there! Yes! Adult me loves Venom as well!! This movie was so funny! Oh, how could I forget about Teen Titans! A kid me was grieving for that blonde girl that was in few episodes so much!! Storm and Wolverine are badass!! Storm should get her movie finally!!
