This is 2nd #5OnMyTBR of Pride and we’re having a free day! I’m curious as to what did you come up with!
#5OnMyTBR is a bookish meme hosted by E. @ Local Bee Hunter’s Nook (me!) and you can learn more about it here or in the post announcing it. It occurs every Monday when we post about 5 books on our TBR.
This week’s prompt is PRIDE free day!
I’m pretty sure at least some of you may be surprised I’m not going with sapphic books but I decided I don’t talk nearly enough about books with trans characters so here we are!
|| Avi Cantor Has Six Months to Live by Sacha Lamb ||
💛 trans boy
💛 dark but hopefull
This is a free novella (about 70 pages) that I’ve meant to read already but never actually got to.
And it’s described as ‘A romantic, #ownvoices fairy tale for trans boys’.
|| Out of Salem by Hal Schrieve ||
💛 zombie & werewolf
A zombie qenderqueer kid and a werewolf lesbian are trying to survive in a town hostile to monsters.
Sounds like a metaphore for being ostracised by the cis/straight people and banding together as a vulnerable community?
Also, it’s paranorma and has an awesome setting.
|| The Storm of Life by Amy Rose Capetta ||
💛 Italy-based worldbuilding
The first book of this duology is one of my favourites and made me question my qender (even more).
So why haven’t I read this one yet?
I don’t know, I want to listen to the audiobook but Scribd isn’t cooperative here and I’m kind of scared of being disappointed. I had such a strong reaction to the first book now anything but perfection won’t be satisfactory.
|| The Thirty Names of Night by Zeyn Joukhadar ||
💛 trans man
💛 mystery around birds
💛 mother’s ghost
A story following three generations of Sirians-Americans.
A tran boy, a sole caretaker of his grandmother, begins to see his ornitologist mother’s ghost.
He also finds a journal of a Syrian American artist named Laila Z, who is tied to his family and queer people withing his community.
|| Fanfik by Natalia Osińska ||
💛 trans boy
💛 it’s Polish!!!
Polish LGBTQ+ books are so rare… And I’ve heard it’s a good Polish LGBTQ+ book!!
Alas — it exist. I need to get my hands on it.
Fanfik is about reading fanfiction making you question your gender & sexuality.
Could you recommend me more books with trans and non-binary characters? I feel like I don’t have enough of them on my TBR.
Also, what theme did you go with today?
- Do you participate in #5OnMyTBR?
- Do you have any of those on your TBR?
- Have you read them maybe? (Make me read them then!!)
