#5OnMyTBR — 5 Long Books

Hello Darlings!

How was your week? I’m slowly getting used to my pills and my sunburn is much better so I’m GOOD!

#5OnMyTBR is a bookish meme hosted by E. @ Local Bee Hunter’s Nook (me!) and you can learn more about it here or in the post announcing it. It occurs every Monday when we post about 5 books on our TBR.

This week’s prompt is Long Books!

Are you intimidated by long books? Me too! Or rather I got addicted to this rush of seeing more and more books on my GR challenge + I’m super impatient and staying in one world for too long has me screeching. BUT! I still have some chunky books I want to read.

💛 848 pages
💛 sapphics
💛 dragons

Honestly, sapphics and dragons and it’s long but everybody raves about it is all I know about this books.

Oh, and it’s slow burn? I think?

Anyway, I don’t need to know more, I’m sold. I just need a little push to finally pick it up that’s it.

Also, this cover is beautiful. Maybe I should buy it in a physical form.

💛 989 pages (1st book)
💛 mlm
💛 paranormal mystery

Blame Silvia for getting me into Chinese webnovels. Now I have so many chonkers to read. I have no idea how I will accomplish it but , hey, paranormal mystery is my thing so this one should be easy? And I could add it to this paranormal mystery rec list post I am writing. This should motivate me. Yeah.

💛 1568 pages
💛 sapphics
💛 historical

Another Chinese novel — but this time we have sapphics!! I need to read it for this reason only.

But also recently I got into historical books (are you tired of me mentioning that in every post?) so I want to check how broad that interest is as I mostly read Edwardian England romances.

|| 天官赐福 [Tiān Guān Cì Fú] by Mò Xiāng Tóngxiù ||

💛 2050 pages
💛 mlm
💛 Wuxia

Yet ANOTHER Chinese webnovel.

I promised my friend to read it so many times and yet I’m still here, not even a page read by me. I’m the worst.

AND I was the one to introduce her to MXZX’s novels with Mo Dao Zu Shi, which she’s read without complaint. I’ll read it soon, I swear.

|| The Poppy War by R.F. Kuang

💛 644 pages (1st book)
💛 Chinese mythology
💛 war

Another China inspired book but this time not a webnovel. It’s also not as long as the rest mentioned here but still quite long.

I don’t know much about it as I want to go blindly into it but it’s about war and it really shows it’s bad side. High stakes and all.

And everyone seems to love it a lot so while I’m not usually the one to hop on the hype, this one seems to worth it.

Last thought!

What’s the longest book you guys read? For me it was definitelly Mo Dao Zu Shi with 1452 pages. I’ve really outdone myself with that one.

  • Do you participate in #5OnMyTBR?
  • Do you have any of those on your TBR?
  • Have you read them maybe? (Make me read them then!!)

  1. Definitely read the Poppy War, it’s soo good!! 😊 I think the longest book I’ve ever read is probably The Wise Man’s Fear by Patrick Rothfuss, which has 1103 pages. I’m about to top that by finishing Shakespeare’s collected works, though – my edition could definitely be used as a murder weapon: it has 1400 enormous pages of extremely small print. I feel way prouder of this than I probably should lol 😂

    1. Thanks, I will! Can’t promise that soon but I definitely wouldn’t want to skip on it!
Oh, wow. I wanted to buy his collected works once as well but I decided that I would rather buy the collection at some point because one huge book is wayyy too intimidating so you’re a badass for tackling it on!!

      1. Haha, buying the works separately is probably the smarter way to go 😂 I was so frustrated at first because I didn’t seem to be making any progress… And lugging that monstrosity around can be tiring! But it does feel pretty great once you get closer to the end and realize just how much you’ve read 😊

  2. I’ve only read The poppy war, but I just started The priory of the orange tree and I’m liking it this far.

Chinese webnovels ARE SCARY. 2050 pages?? Sounds like the year I’ll finish the book by.

  3. Priory and The Poppy War are so great!! I totally understand intimidation at Priory, it took me so long to actually start it, and I only read it once we were in lockdown so I didn’t have to cart it about on a tram with me. Far too heavy a book for a commute.

      1. Awww!! Don’t worry hon we are all in the same boat – I LOVE big books but ONLY AFTER I GET OVER THE SHOCK OF THE FACT THAT I AM READING SUCH A BIG BOOK! 🤷🏻‍♀️🤣🤣🤣

Really? Well…okay then! Making Priory a priority from now on! 😉😘

  4. I have heard so many good things about The Priory of the Orange Tree… and yet I was intimidated by its length. It sat on my nightstand for three weeks before I had to return it to the library 😦 I 10,000% recommend The Poppy War — it’s amazing. The webnovels seem really interesting, especially Female General and Eldest Princess! Liked this post a lot ❤
