Hello Darlings!
How was your week? I’m home alone and I’m so not used to it… Tomorrow my fam is finally back!!
#5OnMyTBR is a bookish meme hosted by E. @ Local Bee Hunter’s Nook (me!) and you can learn more about it here or in the post announcing it. It occurs every Monday when we post about 5 books on our TBR.
This week’s prompt is Mysteries!
I don’t read that many mysteries so this will probably be paranormal mysteries in my case so forgive me please for not being able to fulfill my own prompts lmao.
|| Hexbreaker by Jordan L. Hawk ||
💛 mlm
💛 witch/shapeshifter
💛 paranormal mystery
I just finished one series by Jordan L. Hawk last month and I’m ready for more!
His writing is fun, engaging, and intriguing. I loved the unique fantasy creatures and the banter and the found family so I hope I’ll see more of it here.
Also! A cat shapeshifter! And a witch!
|| Undertow by Jordan L. Hawk ||
💛 sapphic
💛 monster romance
💛 paranormal mystery
Yes, it’s still the same author. This is a side story from the series I’ve read and IT’S SAPPHIC.
Not only sapphic but has a monster romance and, yeah, call me a monster-fucker but I’m always weak for it.
Oh, and the MC is bi so that’s cool too.
|| Hunter of Demons by Jordan L. Hawk ||
💛 mlm
💛 vampires
💛 paranormal mystery
Yes, this is slowly turning into me saying that I really want to read Jordan L. Hawk’s backlist.
And you know what? I can roll with that.
Anyway, this one is about a weird vampire-like dude (or two dudes in one guy? As in souls not sexy times) going on revenge to kill some demons.
|| Unhallowed by Jordan L. Hawk ||
💛 mlm
💛 librarians
💛 paranormal mystery
Ok, that’s the last one! I swear!
In my defense, librarians, am I right?? Couldn’t just pass on it.
And it’s set in the Widdershins world so I expect some come-ins from Whyborne & Griphin characters!
Also, that’s the best cover as of yet!
|| A Lesson in Vengeance by Victoria Lee ||
💛 sapphics
💛 boarding school
💛 dark academia
Ok, this is not out yet — doesn’t even have a cover yet not out — but I can’t stop myself from mentioning it!
It’s sapphic dark academia! Pitched as The Secret History meets Genuine Fraud and The Craft!
And by Victoria Lee, no less!
Last thought!
Do you read mysteries? Or do you need some supernatural or other incentives to read it just like me? Because, from what you see, I clearly need some dragons or unicorns or whatever to it.
- Do you participate in #5OnMyTBR?
- Do you have any of those on your TBR?
- Have you read them maybe? (Make me read them then!!)
I wanna read all of these! They all sound so good!

Same! I don’t read many mysteries, either, though I do enjoy them.
A Lesson in Vengeance sounds very cool! It’s sapphic and dark academia??!! And Lee is a science doctoral student? The more reason for me (also a STEM PhD student) to try! Thanks for the rec!
Here is my first #5OnMyTBR post!

It’s such a wide genre and I have nearly 100 books on GR labeled ‘mystery’ but when I clicked on ‘want to read’ I was left with 1/3rd 😀
Right??? It’s all I ever wanted tbh and the official art already has my heart! NP! Good luck with your PhD!! ❤

I think my #5OnMyTBR this week already includes the majority of the mysteries I want to read. 😂
Did not know that the picture is official art! I definitely need A Lesson in Vengeance NOW! This is something to look forward to in 2021.
Thank you!! ☺️

I am so excited for A Lesson in Vengeance, it’s one of my most anticipated 2020 books, adore Victoria Lee!! The others also all sounds great, I’m very here for monster fucking, cat shapeshifters, vampires and librarians. That’s like three of my favourite book things and then one which just sounds awesome even though I’ve never read a book with it (the cat shapeshifters).

You just got me excited it’s 2020 but GR still says 2021 :c We’ll have to wait, I guess! Haha, yes, Jordan L. Hawk knows what’s up! Writing only what’s REALLY important!! ❤

Ooh I’d not heard of either author before but I’ll have to have a look! I’m especially interested by A Lesson in Vengeance. I’ve wanted to try Dark Academia for a while! Great list 😀

Both authors are good but, yeah, if I would have to choose Victoria Lee *really* hits it. And sapphic dark academia is something I wanted for years!! Thank you, Sabrina!! ❤

Omg is that art work for A Lesson in Vengeance actually for the book or is it for something else? I saw it and immediately wanted to add that book to my TBR based on the art alone (although I’m adding it now based on the synopsis as well lol). Great list! I’m liking the sound of all of these 😀

It’s an official art work Victoria Lee has commissioned for the book! There was a tweet and all but I don’t keep links like that 😀 But the synopsis is all I ever wanted!! Thank you!! ❤

I actually love mysteries if they’re done well – and by that I mean that I want to be able to solve the mystery along with the protagonist! All the clues need to be there, but there should be enough red herrings that the ending blows your mind and you wonder how you ever missed these details 😁 Agatha Christie is the queen of this 😉 But if it’s just some reveal at the end that explains everything but was never properly set up, I’ll take the paranormal over the real-life version any day! 😊

Oh, yeah! Definitely I want all the things to be set up right as well — I just tune it out if it’s neither gay nor magic? I guess that’s just not my genre 😀 I tried one book by Christie but all I remember is being annoyed by it — it wasn’t one of the famous ones though.

Yeah, she has a few bad ones as well… If you’re starting out, I’d recommend something like Sleeping Murder or A Caribbean Mystery, those are a bit more fast-paced 😉 But gay and magic sounds perfectly fine, too! 😊😊

Okay I am in LOVE with A Lesson in Vengeance’s cover!! GORGEOUS!! 😍❤️❤️

I see… So these are the books by Jordan L. Hawk you mentioned to me before!! Omg they all sound interesting 😍 I enjoy good mysteries though I have to admit that I don’t read that many from the genres. Bonus point if it has supernatural and/or paranormal elements to it!!
