#5OnMyTBR — Ensemble Cast

Hello Darlings!

How was your week? I feel like I mostly slept through mine… I’m half asleep while writing this to be honest. At least I managed to listen to some audiobooks because I’m so failing on reading this month

5

#5OnMyTBR is a bookish meme hosted by E. @ Local Bee Hunter’s Nook (me!) and you can learn more about it here or in the post announcing it. It occurs every Monday when we post about 5 books on our TBR.

This week’s prompt is Ensemble Cast!

Sorry about that spelling mistake, btw. It’s ensemble not assemble… I definitely know how to write things… Anyway! Large casts are cool and have found family potential so let’s get into that!

|| The Gilded Wolves by Roshani Chokshi ||

πŸ’› set in France?
πŸ’› lots of rep
πŸ’› pretty cover

I actually don’t know much about this book?

I mean, ensemble cast and found family and lots of rep sounds good enough and the rest I can learn when I read this beauty.

Also, THIS COVER??!! YES, PLEASE!!

|| Lucky 7  by Rae D. Magdon ||

goodreads-add-e1547065951898

πŸ’› sapphic
πŸ’› humour
πŸ’› adventure

This one gives me Sense8 and The Old Guard vibes.

It’s super queer and it’s about a found family group of operatives with a jacker (a jean hacker someone who can plug oneself into virtual reality) and a handler sapphic romance!!

|| When We Were Magic by Sarah Gailey ||

goodreads-add-e1547065951898

πŸ’› sapphic
πŸ’› witches
πŸ’› accidental murder

I am adamant to finally give Sarah Gailey’s book more than 3 stars (even though 3 stars is a good rating!!) and hopefully, this will be the one to break the spell!

Queer witches + accidental murder?? I need it!!

|| The Afterward by E.K. Johnston ||

goodreads-add-e1547065951898

πŸ’› sapphics
πŸ’› quest plot subverted
πŸ’› all-female group of knights/thieves with only one man

Ok, we can agree that badass women don’t need explanation — just look at this cover and tell me you wouldn’t add it to your TBR.

But also, it subverts some popular fantasy tropes which is always interesting to watch.

|| Critical Role – Vox Machina: Origins by Matthew Colville ||

πŸ’› Critical Role
πŸ’› comic
πŸ’› d&d

Ah! I miss Vox Machina so much!! Can’t wait to read about where they came from and their adventures from before the podcast.

Also! Look at them!! Don’t they look pretty in the comic form??

Last thought!

What ensemble cast books have you already read? I’m pretty sure the most popular is still Six of Crows (and hell yeah, I liked it too) but anything else?? Take into consideration that I love found family feels!!

  • Do you participate in #5OnMyTBR?
  • Do you have any of those on your TBR?
  • Have you read them maybe? (Make me read them then!!)

  1. Great picks! My post hasn’t gone up yet but I also have Gilded Wolves on it πŸ˜€ It’s been on my TBR for way too long and I don’t know why I keep putting it off lol When We Were Magic looks so good πŸ˜€ Had no idea it was ensemble cast!

    1. Thank you, Dini! The Gilded Wolves seemed to be a popular pick this week πŸ˜€ I think I’ve had it on my TBR since before it was released and it’s time to finally pick it up!! Haha, honestly it’s my hope and a shoot in the dark that it’s an ensemble cast — I mostly guessed for this prompt

  2. So glad to see The Afterward here, it’s so great!! And I really want to read When We Were Magic too.

I think my favourite recent ensemble cast was Dangerous Remedy. But I also love The Poppy War series, the crew are amazing!

  3. Well I’m failing on reading too this month πŸ˜‚ Anyway, Lucky 7 sounds interesting!! I don’t know why but the cover gave like Ghost in the Shell kind of vibe to me somehow. And I see now Critical Role also has a comic form!!

    1. I caught up finally, actually πŸ˜‚ Still dk if I hit my 20 books bar but it’s not bad
Hmm, I haven’t seen it but that’s interesting to hear!
Yes! And there will be a cartoon as well! Both are for the first campaign though — my post was for the characters from the second πŸ™‚

      1. Well any progress is good even if it’s small 😊 and to be honest I haven’t watched Ghost in the Shell too hahah πŸ˜‚

Ooh that’s interesting!! I’ll keep this one on my radar for now.

  4. Love this list! Gilded Wolves is on my list too – looks amazing, and I am trying to read it before the sequel comes out this year. If you want a “conventional” heist read, I highly recommend the Rogues of the Republic Trilogy by Patrick Weekes; similar to Six of Crows, but more High Fantasy, and (in my opinio) even better humor. Happy reading!

  5. Wait… I need Rae D. Magdon’s Lucky 7 RIGHT NOW!! I’ve only read The Gilded Wolves and I love the reps! Not sure if I fully got the plot but its sequel is also pretty good. Chokshi left a pretty big cliffhanger so I’m really looking forward to reading the third book. Wonderful list, E.!

    1. Right?? It sounds amazing!! Haha, I don’t always fully follow heist books as well but I’m there for the fun! Maybe I’ll wait till the 3rd book will be in sight to pick it up then! I hate waiting and cliffhangers!! Thank you, Hsinju! ❀
