Hello Darlings!
How was your week? I did some fence painting and shopping this weekend — guess which one was more tiring??

#5OnMyTBR is a bookish meme hosted by E. @ Local Bee Hunter’s Nook (me!) and you can learn more about it here or in the post announcing it. It occurs every Monday when we post about 5 books on our TBR.
This week’s prompt is Disabled MC!
Wow, this one took some digging on my part as I usually mark the disability after reading the book. I need to be more aware of disabled characters in the future.

|| The Wicker King by K. Ancrum ||

π mc with anorexia, anxiety & depression, mc with peduncular hallucinosis
π poly
π bisexuals
I think it’s that friends to lovers Magical Realism book everyone was talking about back in the day and I still haven’t read??
I thought it was m/m but apparently it’s poly which weirdly the reviews I read back when I put it on my TBR didn’t mention??
|| Three-Way Split by Elia Winters ||

π mc with dyscalculia
π poly
π bisexuals
Another poly romance!!
That’s all I know about this book — dyscalculia and poly romance.
I added it when I was on the lookout for poly romances so if you know some good ones — drop the titles in the comments.
|| As I Descended by Robin Talley ||

π disabled lesbian mc
π Macbeth retelling
π nearly everyone dies and I will cry
I keep mentioning that book in this meme every few weeks but I still haven’t read it…
The truth is, I’m too chicken to read a MacBeth retelling where I actually care about characters (I assume I would because they’re queer) and watch them die. Send help.
|| Failure to Communicate by Kaia SΓΈnderby ||

π #ownvoices autistic protagonist
π bi/pan
π sci-fi
I’ve heard only good things about this series so it’s a wonder I still haven’t read it.
The MC is one of the only remaining autistic people due to genetic engineering and she’s a space diplomat on a mission to mediate with xenophobic people in the possession of a dangerous weapon.
|| The Mighty Heart of Sunny St. James by Ashley Herring Blake ||

π MC after a heart surgery
π sapphic
π Middle Grade
I only put this on my TBR today but I’ve thought about this book for a long time I just forgot to click that want to read button.
My brother has a heart condition so this book will be super important to me probably and I will cry a lot but in a good way. And it’s sapphic.
Last thought!
Thank you to all the people who put all the rep in their reviews — this post would be impossible without you lmao. I need to go through my TBR and check which of them have disability rep at some point TT-TT

- Do you participate in #5OnMyTBR?
- Do you have any of those on your TBR?
- Have you read them maybe? (Make me read them then!!)

Ohhh awesome list, E.! I keep hearing great things about The Wicker King and I just have to read it. π₯Ί The Mighty Heart of Sunny St. James? It’s AHB and I will read anything she writes.
I added a little twist on this week’s theme and made it all about #ownvoices disability reps. π
Thanks for hosting!

The Wicker King is AMAZING! K.Ancrum is one of my favourite authors, I will read anything she writes. The mental health rep in TWK book is just unparalleled in YA, it’s such a powerful book.
I need to read As I Descended too! And like, the rest of Robin Talley’s work as well…

That’s wonderful to hear!! I’m glad you loved it so much and I hope I will as well!! β€ I love K. Ancrum on Twitter though!! She's so fun!! π
I loved her Pulp and the dual timeline there but that's her only book I've read. Need to catch up!

Ooh I had no idea The Wicker King had disability rep! I’ve seen it float around a lot on bookstagram but I didn’t know what it was about either until I looked it up just now. As I Descended also sounds super cool and The Mighty Heart of Sunny St James looks utterly adorable. Great list!

Awesome list! The only book I could think of with disabled MC is 100 Days of Sunlight

Ahh yes. The Wicker King. When I first got into the book I also thought it’s gonna be m/m because of people’s reviews and the fact they didn’t mention the poly. But I enjoyed it nevertheless! Another book I can think of that has disability rep would be Been Here All Along by Sandy Hall! One of the mcs has learning disability.

Right?? IDK why people say it’s m/m if it’s poly!! Makes no sense!!
Oh, I had it on my TBR but I lost my interest in it at some point. Good to know about the rep though!!

Ashley Herring Blake is a MG author I’ve been sleeping on! I know my reading is woefully lacking when it comes to disability rep, so I’ll have to check out that book.
