Harrow the Ninth by Tamsyn Muir, 4,5 stars

I liked Gideon’s POV better — she’s wayy funnier than Harrow — but being in Harrow’s mind felt amazingly disturbing. It was even more mysterious, complex, and harrowing than the first book. And much much gayer. 👌

The Care and Feeding of Waspish Widows by Olivia Waite, 4,5 stars

Remember the printer lady from the last book? From Griffins? Well, guess whose husband sadly died and who, by chance, just met a hot beekeeper lesbian and is overcome by lust?

This book in the series is a slower burn than the previous one so naturally, we get more pinning 😎 which I liked! We also had wayy more queer characters than just the main couple! Queer people flock together! YAY! And, of course, I loved the bees. It’s my brand so I must mention it. There were bees and they were super important to the plot. Yeah. Now that I got that out of my system — I feel like this book wanted to cover many things at once and it mostly pulled it off but it still lowkey felt all over the place? I loved the thing but things could fit together a bit more smoothly.

Seeing Red by Cara Malone, 3 stars

I’m too much of a commie to fully enjoy this (rich/poor romance with the rich posing as the good guys and the poor as the problematic ones) but it was cute and I liked the grandma. My granny has dementia as well (more developed at this point) so I could relate to the struggle of losing someone little by little.

Cinders by Cara Malone, 3 stars

Ok, I’m still ‘f*ck the rich’ team and there were cops there but this really pulled me in? It was cute and both of the MCs harbored childhood crushes on each other and now I lowkey want a hot butch firefighter girlfriend. Or a type A personality gardening femme gf. Both were hot and cute. The plot was predictable and I guessed the bad guy right away but who cares? Not me.

  1. I wish I’d liked Gideon the Ninth more. I was so desperately anticipating it, but just sort of gave up halfway through. Maybe I need to give it another read without the pressure of release date reviews. I had no idea The Care and Feeding of Waspish Widows was connected to The Lady’s Guide to Celestial Mechanics but that just makes me doubly excited to give it a read. I have ARCs of Lady of Stone (Barbara Ann Wright) and Broken Reign (Sam Ledel) to read first, but Olivia Waite is up next!

    1. Oh, I’ve put it off for ages after the first few chapters too! It’s super confusing and such a puzzle but the ending is worth it and I loved the characters! But it’s definitely something to read without the time pressure 🙂 Yes, the side character from Lady’s Guide is the MC here but the MCs from the Lady’s Guide don’t make a big appearance here. I hope you enjoy your ARCs then!! ❤

  4. One of the reasons I haven’t started Harrow yet, apart from having heard that the ending hurts, is that I was afraid her PoV wouldn’t be as interesting (no way a character can be funnier than Gideon, that’s just the truth), so I’m glad to hear it has its own perks!
    Also I really need to get to The Care and Feeding of Waspish Widows – I didn’t know about the connection with the first book and now I’m even more intrigued. Great post!

    1. Yeah, Harrow is definitely not as fun as Gideon but she’s so messed up being in her head is super intriguing! Also, the audiobook helped me get through it faster (Muir is so slow to read for me!)
      Definitely read it! And, again, the audiobook is great!!

    1. Yay!! I hope you enjoy them! Yeah, I get it — it’s a particular one 😉 I loved it technically but I didn’t love love it? I listened to the audiobook of Harrow and it was great (and such a timesaver beacuse Gideon took me AGES to read!)

    1. That’s not that many for two weeks actually 😅 Gideon is definitely better read on an e-reader because I kept checking the vocab but I love the covers too and would love to have them on my shelf at some point! They’re all great though!! ❤
