#Blogtober — Spooky Middle Grade πŸ‚

Hello to all! Are you participating in #blogtober? It’s a month of blog prompts organised by Anniek’s Library and The Library Looter!

Today, October 6th, is about spooky middle grade! So, of course, I’ll be using it to gush about my childhood obsession  — The Spiderwick Chronicles!!

ALSO, IT’S MY BIRTHDAY!!! YAY!!!

JUST LOOK AT THOSE BEAUTIES!!!

Maybe they’re not the hightest on spookiness but they were spooky enough to a tiny me and I loved them so so much!

I loved the weird old house in the middle of nowhere with strange noises and secret rooms! And the mysterious forest surrounding it? Hell yeah!

It was full of so many strange creatures which were usually not so friendly (they had their reasons but still… watch out or you may disappear forever) that made me doubt reality and double check every nook and cranny for months on end. I wanted them to be real and here but also lol nope please stay away… Yeah.

Also, the main characters were siblings and this is not something I read about often at the time (I think it was that period when most popular protagonists were orphans…) so I really enjoyed that! Sibling relationships are so interesting! We will fight all the time but also rush to save each other from that troll near the hill right away!

What spooky MG books were you obsessed as a kid?

–E.

  1. I was absolutely and utterly OBSESSED with Goosebumps back in the day… I would often read them three or four times before the next ones came out. I had them all and was delighted when my mum felt I was old enough to move to the fear street series (I was an advanced reader).

  2. Happy Birthday, E! I hope you have a fabulous day πŸ™‚
I mentioned it on Twitter already, but Goosebumps definitely freaked me out when I was a kid lol I honestly don’t know how I ever read those books. Nancy Drew also really freaked me out? I never ended up finishing any of her books because I was too scared πŸ™ˆ I’m a total chicken!

    1. Thank you again Dini!!
Goosebumps and Nancy Drew weren’t available in my library but maybe that’s good because I’m a fellow chicken lol πŸ˜€ But Diamond Books send me a Nancy Drew comic so maybe at least I’ll get that fixed! πŸ™‚

You know, I think I read a couple of these when I was younger, but I can’t remember much about them! Perhaps I should revisit them.
